Prof. Dr. Christopher Gerner is the Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Vienna. He graduated in Biochemistry and pursued his Ph.D. at the Institute of Cancer Research in Vienna, where he specialized in using mass spectrometry for proteome profiling.
Following his Ph.D., Prof. Gerner completed his postdoctoral research in Vienna and Dublin, focusing on the regulation of programmed cell death in tumor cells and tumor-associated stromal cells. As an Associate Professor, he established a clinical proteomics laboratory at the Medical University of Vienna, advancing the application of proteomics in clinical research.
Since 2012, Prof. Gerner has been a Full Professor of Bioanalytics at the University of Vienna. His research integrates various omics disciplines to implement post-genomic analysis techniques in both basic and clinical research, with the goal of elucidating the pathomechanisms of complex diseases.
