Introduction

Prof. Bernhard Keppler is a renowned bioinorganic chemist and physician, who for a long time served as the Head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry and Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Vienna.

Prof. Keppler earned his diploma in Chemistry and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Heidelberg. He also obtained his medical license (Approbation) and a second Ph.D. in Medicine from the German Cancer Research Center. His academic journey led him to become a University Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Heidelberg before being appointed as the Head of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Vienna.

In addition to his administrative roles, Prof. Keppler leads the inter-university research cluster for Translational Cancer Therapy Research, in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna and Walter Berger. He also serves as the Deputy Head of the research network for Chemistry, Microbiology, and Environmental Systems Science, in partnership with the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science at the University of Vienna, alongside biologist Michael Wagner.

Prof. Keppler’s research is situated at the intersection of inorganic chemistry and biology, with a particular focus on translational cancer therapy.
